We know how everyone fell in love with Ellie Saab’s Haute Couture collection this fall; and the hairstyles were also a part of the stunning result on the catwalk. This double French braid with chignon has playful and elegant air in the same time.
The braided chignon does call for some practice or a bit of exercise beforehand so don’t go crazy if it doesn’t go well from the start.
Here is how to do your haute couture braided chignon.
Prepare your hair by using a volume boosting spray in the roots of your dry hair. Leave the product in your hair for approx. 2 minutes and then use the hairdryer on high heat on your entire head.
Divide your hair in two, straight from the front of the hairline, down to the nape of the neck; then clip one out of the way.
Starting from the front hairline of the right side of the part, take a small section of hair in the shape of a triangle and divide it into three sections (as though, you’re about to start braiding). Do note that this is just a small section of hair from this side.
Start braiding from under – right piece goes to center, left piece goes to center. This is principally a three-strand braid, but with a little twist: the center strand doesn’t move, and the other two strands are tucked under it.
Continue taking sections from the front hairline and adding it to right piece that is being tucked under the center piece of the braid.
Similarly, take a section of hair from center parting, add it to the left piece and tuck it under the center piece of the braid.
Continue to do this until the nape of the neck. Pick up sections of hair along the way as you go. Once you reach the nape area and have no more hair to pick up from either side, continue to plait all the way down. Secure with an elastic hair tie. You should have one chunky braid on one side of the part by this step.
Do the same thing on the other side, except this time when you section the hair into three parts, the left side would go under the center piece and then the right side.
Once you have braided both sections, take the plaited ends and create a bun at the back of the head. You can inter-twirl them, knot them together or wrap them around to coil in a circle – feel free to play. Then secure in place with bobby pins.
Enjoy your new hairstyle!
